Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed grave concern over the shrinking space for independent journalism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). He highlighted the alarming surge in violent incidents targeting journalists in the province, terming it \”intolerable\”.
Bilawal condemned the suppression of journalism through violence, attributing the acts to \”fascist elements\”. He accused the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party of being \”fearful of independent journalism\” and relying on \”undemocratic tactics and conspiracies\” to maintain power.
The PPP chairman\’s statement comes as many journalists in K-P hold the chief minister and the ruling party responsible for the brutalities. Bilawal\’s condemnation of the violence against journalists is a call to action to protect press freedom and democracy in Pakistan.
