Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, issued a fiery warning to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, declaring that any attempt to choke the Indus River would be met with fierce resistance.
Addressing a large public gathering in Mirpurkhas, Bilawal accused Modi of launching an assault on the Indus River following India’s recent statements undermining the Indus Waters Treaty in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident.
“We will never allow Modi to strangle the Indus. If there’s an attack on our river, then either the Indus will flow with water—or with their blood,” Bilawal thundered. He referred to Modi as the “butcher of Gujarat” and accused India of using terrorism as a pretext to undermine Pakistan’s water rights.
Bilawal highlighted former President Asif Ali Zardari’s firm stance against the construction of new canals on the Indus without provincial consent. “President Zardari made it clear: the water of a province belongs to that province,” Bilawal said, adding that PPP workers had mobilized to protect the river when Zardari was criticized.
“We saved the Indus through peaceful political struggle—and that is real politics,” he asserted.
The PPP leader alleged that India is using the Pahalgam attack as an excuse to wage a broader campaign, with the real target being Pakistan’s control over the Indus waters. “If India has evidence of who was behind the attack, show it to us, show it to the people. If it’s proven, we’ll hang the culprits in Mirpurkhas ourselves,” he challenged.
Calling India an aggressor rather than a peace-loving nation, Bilawal said, “Modi wants war, not peace. But we will resist to the last breath. We don’t want war, but if it is imposed, we will retaliate with full force.”
