ISLAMABAD:( The COW News Digital)-The federal government of Pakistan has announced that electricity bills for flood-affected agricultural and commercial consumers for August 2025 will be deferred until December 2025. This move aims to provide financial relief to those impacted by recent devastating floods.
According to sources from the *Power Division, affected consumers will **pay their August bills in installments from January to June 2026. Overall, the government has provided *PKR 17 billion relief across various sectors. Domestic consumers have received *PKR 11 billion in bill waivers, while commercial and agricultural users have had *PKR 6 billion in bills deferred.
The relief program covers approximately 2.5 million electricity consumers nationwide. Domestic users who had already paid their bills for August will be *refunded, whereas commercial and agricultural consumers will benefit from a *four-month installment plan. The plan allows payments to be spread evenly, making it easier for businesses and farmers to manage cash flow after flood-related losses.
The Power Division clarified that the fixed monthly installment amounts for commercial and agricultural consumers will be included in the billing cycles from *January to June 2026, ensuring **predictability in payments. The government emphasized that this decision is aimed at *supporting flood-affected communities, enabling them to recover without immediate financial pressure from high utility costs.
The relief package is part of a broader effort by the federal government to mitigate the economic impact of natural disasters on vulnerable sectors. Officials noted that agricultural consumers, in particular, face additional challenges due to crop losses and infrastructure damage caused by recent floods. Deferred billing provides temporary financial respite, allowing farmers to focus on replanting and rebuilding efforts.
The federal authorities also urged electricity distribution companies to ensure smooth implementation of the deferred billing system and to communicate clearly with consumers about installment plans.
This initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing strategy to support citizens during emergencies and maintain economic stability in disaster-hit areas, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to disaster relief and public welfare.
