China has issued a strong warning to the U.S. following President Donald Trump’s decision to increase trade tariffs, declaring readiness for any type of conflict, including a tariff or trade war.
According to a British news agency, the world’s two largest economies are escalating toward a trade war as Trump imposes additional tariffs on all Chinese goods. In response, China has swiftly retaliated by placing a 10-15% tariff on U.S. agricultural products.
In a statement, the Chinese embassy declared, “If the U.S. wants war—whether a tariff war, trade war, or any other—we are prepared to fight to the end.”
This marks one of Beijing’s strongest reactions to Trump’s policies, coming amid the ongoing National People’s Congress session.
On Wednesday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang announced a 7.2% increase in the country’s defense budget, citing rapid global changes. This increase aligns with last year’s defense spending growth.
Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Washington condemned a U.S. State Department statement linking China to fentanyl trafficking. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson dismissed the allegation, calling it a “weak excuse” to justify higher tariffs against China.
