Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has identified 500 social media accounts allegedly involved in a coordinated anti-state propaganda campaign. The agency has officially launched a probe into what it describes as a deliberate effort to undermine national institutions and spread dissent against the government.
According to investigators, these accounts became active participants in a targeted online disinformation drive on May 8, 2025. The campaign reportedly aimed to manipulate public opinion and fuel negativity against the country’s core institutions.
Special teams from the agency’s Cyber Crime Wing are now conducting a deep forensic analysis of the digital activities linked to these accounts. Authorities believe the campaign was both deliberate and well-organized, involving multiple actors across various platforms.
Sources within the agency revealed that steps are being taken to obtain identity data from NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) to trace the individuals or organizations behind these accounts. The goal is to ensure that those responsible face legal accountability.
Officials emphasized that any attempt to destabilize the state through online platforms will be met with firm and decisive legal action. “There will be zero tolerance for those trying to exploit digital spaces to undermine national security,” said a senior agency representative.
