European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, has expressed sympathy with families affected by Indian aggression during a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar. She urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint amid escalating regional tensions.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson, Shafqat Ali Khan, the two leaders discussed the evolving security situation in South Asia. Dar conveyed Pakistan’s appreciation for the European Union’s solidarity and support during a difficult time.
During the call, Ishaq Dar strongly condemned India’s military actions, stating that they violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and posed a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He emphasized that such acts were in breach of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Dar also rejected Indian claims that its military actions targeted terrorist infrastructure, calling the allegations baseless and unsubstantiated. Referring to the Pahalgam attack, he stressed that India had provided no credible evidence linking Pakistan to the incident.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister reaffirmed the country’s right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which permits self-defense in the event of an armed attack.
In her remarks, EU representative Kaja Kallas offered heartfelt condolences over the loss of civilian lives and expressed solidarity with the families affected by Indian aggression. She urged both countries to de-escalate tensions and prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to resolve their differences.
