The dissolution of the assembly marks the beginning of a transitional period in which the caretaker government will manage day-to-day administrative affairs and ensure that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission will oversee the electoral process, which will be held under the framework of the Federal Election Act 2017, aligning the region’s election procedures with federal standards.

In a separate development, the Election Commission has withheld the notification of victory for the brother of political leader Talal Chaudhry, pending further verification. This decision comes amid heightened scrutiny of electoral procedures in the region, reflecting the commitment of the authorities to maintain transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

The appointment of a respected retired judge as caretaker Chief Minister is seen as a move to ensure neutrality and impartiality during the election period. Analysts suggest that this transitional government is expected to focus solely on administrative continuity, avoiding policy decisions or major governmental changes until a newly elected assembly assumes office.

Political observers note that the smooth transition to a caretaker setup is critical for maintaining public confidence in the democratic process. With elections now scheduled under federal guidelines, stakeholders hope for a transparent, well-organized, and credible polling process that reflects the will of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Justice (R) Yaar Muhammad Nasser will oversee the interim period with support from the administration, maintaining governance stability and preparing the region for a democratic transfer of power once election results are finalized.
