India has blocked the social media account of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, continuing its crackdown on Pakistani social media accounts. This move follows the earlier blocking of accounts belonging to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) social media channel.
The latest action comes after Bilawal Bhutto’s strong statements on India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, where he boldly told the Indian government, “Modi listen, the Indus River is ours; either our water will flow in it or your blood.”
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman commented that India, having been rattled by the truth behind the Pahalgam incident, resorted to blocking Bilawal’s account. She emphasized that this action was a desperate attempt to hide India’s lies.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon called the blocking of Bilawal’s account a “new example of cowardice” and an indication of the Modi government’s fear.
Previously, India had banned Pakistani media outlets, including Geo News and 16 YouTube channels, that were covering the Pahalgam incident, a move that sparked global criticism of India’s stance on freedom of expression. Additionally, prominent Pakistani social media accounts, including those of celebrities Mahira Khan, Hania Amir, and athlete Arshad Nadeem, had also been blocked in India.
This latest development highlights the ongoing digital crackdown between the two nations.
