Two loud explosions were heard early Thursday morning in Gujranwala, prompting the activation of the Pakistan Army’s air defense system stationed near the city’s cantonment area. According to military sources, an Indian drone attempting to breach Pakistani airspace at a high altitude was intercepted and destroyed by the defense system.
The drone, reportedly flying at an extremely high altitude, approached Gujranwala Cantt when the air defense units locked onto it and fired two missiles, successfully neutralizing the aerial threat. The system responded swiftly, engaging the drone before it could penetrate deeper into Pakistani territory.
According to police officials, debris from the downed drone was recovered near the village of Dinga, close to the Gujrat district. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies quickly reached the site and secured the wreckage from the fields of Pir Jhanda village. Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the drone’s model and origin.
No casualties or damage to civilian infrastructure have been reported.
This incident follows growing tensions between India and Pakistan. In a related development, Pakistan Air Force reportedly downed five Indian fighter jets and seven drones in a previous large-scale incursion, also destroying a brigade headquarters, according to unconfirmed military sources.
The situation along the Line of Control and the international border remains tense, with both sides on high alert.
