Iran Dismisses NATO Chief’s Allegations as Baseless

Tehran(The COW News Digital) Iran has strongly rejected allegations by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte accusing Tehran and Moscow of undermining international law. The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the claims as “unfounded and politically motivated,” asserting that such remarks reflect NATO’s own history of violating global norms rather than any wrongdoing by Iran.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani (as cited by international media) or Ismail Baghaei (in the local report) dismissed Rutte’s statement as a “repetition of baseless propaganda” designed to deflect attention from the alliance’s own actions. He argued that NATO member states — particularly the United States — are responsible for most of the violations of international law that have destabilized global peace and security over recent decades.

“The facts clearly show which side has repeatedly breached the UN Charter and international law,” Baghaei said. “It is the same governments that lecture others on legal norms while continuing to wage wars and impose unilateral sanctions.”

Iran’s comments come after Rutte accused Tehran and Moscow of collaborating in ways that “weaken the international order,” citing reports of growing defense cooperation between the two nations. However, Tehran insists that its relationship with Moscow is rooted in mutual respect, legitimate defense cooperation, and adherence to international law.

Baghaei emphasized that Iran’s ties with Russia are based on shared interests and regional stability, rejecting any suggestion that Tehran’s policies are aligned against the West. He further noted that NATO’s criticism is part of a broader Western campaign to isolate Iran and distort its diplomatic stance on global issues.

“The NATO Secretary General should instead reflect on the record of his own member states — from illegal invasions and regime-change wars to economic blockades that harm civilians,” he added.

Iran has repeatedly accused the United States and its NATO allies of hypocrisy, arguing that their interventions in the Middle East, from Iraq to Libya, have caused widespread instability and suffering.

The Foreign Ministry concluded that Rutte’s comments were “nothing more than futile propaganda,” reaffirming Iran’s commitment to international law, sovereignty, and multilateral diplomacy.
