ISLAMABAD:(The COW News Digital)-Section 144 has been enforced in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi called for a protest today in response to being denied a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan.
Following the KP chief minister’s call for protest, Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations imposed a complete ban on protests, rallies, sit-ins, and public gatherings. The display of weapons, use of loudspeakers, and hate speeches have also been strictly prohibited under Section 144.
The district administrations have announced to proceed with legal measures against protestors and urged citizens to avoid participating in any unlawful gatherings.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar High Court has issued fresh directives prohibiting illegal assemblies around government institutions. The court also barred political gatherings within educational institutions, government premises, and administrative buildings.
According to the written order, relevant officials are responsible for preventing political use of government facilities, as these institutions are established for specific public purposes. The court noted that unrelated gatherings undermine the sanctity of state institutions. The five-page judgment was issued by Justice Sahibzada Asadullah.
Acting on the court’s decision, the KP DIG directed police officers and personnel to operate strictly within the province’s geographical and legal limits. He emphasized that government employees will not be deployed outside their designated jurisdictions
