Tel Aviv(The COW News Digital) Israel’s Association of Rape Crisis Centers (ARCC) has reported receiving over 51,000 applications related to sexual assault in 2024, highlighting a concerning rise in gender-based violence in the country. With a population of approximately 9.5 million, the figures represent a significant social challenge.

The report comes ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, drawing attention to the urgent need for protective measures and policy intervention. ARCC compiled its data using information provided by law enforcement agencies, courts, government ministries, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to the report, several government agencies withheld crucial information, despite legal obligations to share such data. The ARCC indicated that some authorities, including the government and IDF, either obstructed or limited access to information related to sexual assault incidents.

Despite these obstacles, the statistics collected reveal a deeply troubling picture of sexual violence across the nation. Last year alone, the ARCC recorded 51,118 cases, the majority involving minors. More than half of the cases involved children or teenagers, highlighting the vulnerability of younger populations to abuse.

The report also points to a notable increase in sexual violence occurring in schools, youth workplaces, and treatment centers, signaling the urgent need for improved protective policies and oversight in environments meant to safeguard young people. Experts emphasize that the rise in cases not only reflects a societal problem but also points to systemic gaps in reporting, prevention, and accountability mechanisms.

ARCC stressed that accurate data collection is vital for shaping effective policies and ensuring justice for victims. “The statistics are alarming, yet they represent only a portion of the actual incidents, given the barriers victims face in reporting and accessing support,” the report stated.

Advocates and policymakers are calling for stronger legislation, better resource allocation, and comprehensive educational programs to combat sexual violence and protect vulnerable populations. ARCC urged government agencies to fully cooperate in data sharing and to implement effective prevention measures.

As Israel prepares to observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the ARCC report serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by survivors of sexual assault and the urgent need for coordinated national action.
