KP CM Calls All-Party Jirga to Ensure Peace in Province

Peshawar(The COW News Digital)Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, has initiated efforts to bring together political leaders from across the province to address security and stability concerns. The CM held multiple telephonic conversations with party leaders and announced the formation of a provincial jirga under the in-house committee of the provincial assembly.

During these discussions, Afridi spoke with Senator Aimal Wali Khan, central president of the Awami National Party (ANP), reviewing the overall law and order situation in the province. He extended an invitation to Wali Khan to attend an All-Parties Conference (APC) organized by the Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Senator Wali Khan stated that the party would decide on participation after internal consultation.

The Chief Minister also reached out to other prominent political figures, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Siraj-ul-Haq, Amir Muqam, Aftab Sherpao, and Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha. Detailed discussions were held with each leader regarding the current security environment and the steps needed to maintain peace and stability across the province.

Emphasizing the importance of consensus, Afridi stated, “There is no doubt about the need for peace in the province. Security and stability remain the government’s top priority. Differences of opinion are the beauty of democracy, but peace is a common goal for all.”

The APC is expected to serve as a platform for constructive dialogue among political stakeholders, allowing them to coordinate on measures to ensure law and order, address public concerns, and reinforce governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Formal invitations for the conference will be issued by the provincial assembly speaker.

Afridi reiterated his commitment to a participatory approach, assuring that all political factions will be included in the peace-building process. “By involving all parties, we aim to establish sustainable peace and stability throughout the province,” he said, signaling a cooperative framework to mitigate tensions and prevent disruptions to public life.

Political analysts note that such initiatives reflect the provincial government’s proactive approach to governance, seeking consensus among diverse political groups while maintaining democratic principles. By convening an all-party jirga, the KP government aims to strengthen provincial cohesion and address security challenges collectively, reinforcing the province’s commitment to inclusive governance and public safety.
