Mark Carney is set to be sworn in as Canada’s new Prime Minister on Friday, according to foreign media reports.
The former Governor of the Bank of Canada was elected leader of the ruling Liberal Party on Sunday, following the resignation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau announced his decision to step down amid mounting pressure over economic challenges, including inflation and trade tensions with the United States. He stated that he would leave office once the party selected a new leader.
Trudeau, 53, first took office as Prime Minister in 2015 and led the country through two consecutive election victories.
