PESHAWAR ( The COW News Digital) The Director General of Law and Human Rights, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Ghulam Ali, marked Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day with a unique show of solidarity by celebrating the occasion alongside prisoners at Central Jail Peshawar. The event also honored the nation’s recent diplomatic and military successes during the “Marqa-e-Haq.”

Upon arrival, Mr. Ghulam Ali and his team were greeted with an emotional welcome from inmates, who showered rose petals and placed garlands around their necks. Patriotic tunes played by a special band filled the air, creating an atmosphere of national pride within the prison walls.

The highlight of the celebrations was a cake-cutting ceremony in which both prisoners and jail staff participated enthusiastically. The unusual yet heartfelt gathering reflected a strong sense of unity, patriotism, and mutual respect between officials and inmates.

In his address, DG Ghulam Ali reflected on the historical struggle that led to the creation of Pakistan, paying homage to the vision and leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He also praised Pakistan’s recent successes on the diplomatic and military fronts, particularly during the Marqa-e-Haq, and emphasized that the essence of independence lies in ensuring justice, equality, and rule of law for every citizen — including those serving sentences.

Highlighting the role of law and human rights, he reminded attendees that a nation’s true progress is measured not just by its achievements but also by how it treats its most marginalized members. His message resonated deeply with the inmates, many of whom expressed hope for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The prisoners, visibly moved by the gesture, responded with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” and reaffirmed their love and loyalty to the country. The celebrations concluded with collective prayers for Pakistan’s peace, prosperity, and unity.

This rare display of national spirit inside a correctional facility showcased that patriotism knows no boundaries and that the ideals of independence can inspire hope even behind prison bars.
