New york(The COW News Digital)Technology giant Meta has secured a patent for a groundbreaking system that could allow a user’s digital presence to continue even after they stop using the platform or pass away. The patent outlines an AI-based technology capable of simulating user activity on social media, effectively keeping their online persona “alive.”
According to reports from Western media, the system relies on a large language model trained to analyze a user’s previous posts, comments, and engagement patterns. Based on this data, the AI can generate content, reply to messages, and interact with other users as the individual would have done. The patent was originally filed in 2023 and approved by the end of December 2025.
The patent document lists Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth as the lead inventor. The system is designed to utilize historical user data, including past posts, comments, and online interactions, to predict how the user would respond in different scenarios. This allows the AI to maintain a realistic simulation of the person’s online behavior.
The technology could also extend to simulating video or audio calls, creating an even more lifelike digital presence. While the patent demonstrates the company’s technical capabilities, Meta has clarified that it has no current plans to implement or launch this system commercially. Filing a patent does not necessarily mean the technology will be made publicly available.

In 2021, Microsoft patented an AI chatbot capable of replicating deceased individuals, fictional characters, and public figures. Additionally, several startups have launched AI-based “memory avatars” that allow users to preserve aspects of their personality digitally.
Ethical and privacy considerations remain central to discussions about such technologies. While the ability to maintain digital interactions after death could offer comfort to friends and family, it also raises questions about consent, data security, and the psychological effects of interacting with AI-generated representations of deceased individuals.
Meta’s patent highlights the potential of AI to reshape the concept of digital presence, offering a glimpse into how future technologies may extend human interaction beyond life itself. However, widespread implementation and adoption of such systems remain speculative at this stage.
