Petrol Pump Owners Warn of Nationwide Shutdown in Pakistan

PAKISTAN ( THE COW NEWS DIGITAL ) Islamabad – The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association (APPOA) has warned that it may consider a nationwide closure of petrol pumps if the government does not address their demands promptly. The association has sent a formal letter to Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik requesting an immediate meeting to resolve ongoing issues in the petroleum sector.

According to the APPOA, a similar letter was sent on March 6, but no response has been received from the ministry. The association highlighted that petrol pump owners across Pakistan are facing multiple challenges, including operational difficulties, financial constraints, sudden price changes, and inconsistent policy updates.

The letter stressed that industry stakeholders must be included in the government’s policymaking process to ensure fair and effective regulations. “Immediate attention is required for the problems faced by 14,000 to 15,000 petrol pump owners nationwide,” the association said.

APPOA further warned that failure to address these demands could force petrol pumps to shut down, potentially triggering a severe fuel crisis across the country. The association indicated that responsibility for such a crisis would rest with the Ministry of Petroleum.

The announcement comes at a time of fluctuating global oil prices, partly influenced by ongoing news about U.S.-Iran negotiations. Analysts suggest that a shutdown of petrol pumps in Pakistan could exacerbate economic instability and disrupt essential services, placing further pressure on consumers and businesses.

Industry experts have also highlighted that the lack of coordination between policymakers and stakeholders has contributed to operational inefficiencies in the fuel sector. APPOA’s warning underscores the urgent need for dialogue and collaborative decision-making to prevent a potential national fuel shortage.

The association urged the government to act swiftly and engage petrol pump owners in consultations to ensure stability in the energy sector. Failure to do so, they warned, could have widespread consequences for transportation, commerce, and everyday life throughout Pakistan.

As the situation develops, both industry representatives and government officials are expected to weigh options to avoid disruption while addressing the concerns of petrol pump owners in a fair and timely manner.
