OGRA Chairman Salary Rs. 1.5 Million Monthly Revealed

Islamabad( The COW News Digital) The salaries of the Chairman and members of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) have been officially disclosed, revealing substantial monthly remunerations for top officials. The information was shared in a written response to a question submitted in the National Assembly by Member of Parliament Aghaar Fayyaz.

According to the written reply provided by the Minister In-Charge of the Cabinet Division, the OGRA management, under Administrative Meeting No. 23-2022, approved advisor positions under Section 14 of the OGRA Ordinance 2002. The document specifies that the Chairman of OGRA receives a monthly salary of PKR 1.5 million, while members for Oil and Finance earn over PKR 1 million each per month.

The response further outlined details regarding key advisors employed on contractual terms. Dr. Ilyas Fazal serves as the Logistic Advisor with 42 years of experience in downstream operations, earning PKR 800,000 per month. Similarly, Ejaz Saddal is appointed as Refinery Advisor with a monthly salary of PKR 800,000, and Brigadier Shahbaz functions as Security Advisor, drawing PKR 800,000 monthly, with 35 years of service in the Pakistan Army.

The Chairman of OGRA is appointed on the SPS scale, and in addition to the gross monthly salary of PKR 1.5 million, a tax deduction exceeding PKR 497,000 is applied. Meanwhile, the Finance and Oil members receive PKR 1,004,960 monthly, with a tax deduction of PKR 277,150.

The disclosure has sparked discussions over the high compensation levels in regulatory institutions and raised questions about salary structures and governance frameworks. The written reply also suggested potential amendments to allow autonomous salary increases within regulatory bodies, highlighting the authority’s flexibility in managing remuneration for senior officials.
