Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the passage of 150 Afghan trucks into India through the Wagah border, following a formal request from the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office confirmed that the decision was made in view of the “brotherly relations” between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The approval addresses the issue of Afghan transit trade trucks that had been stranded at various Pakistani border crossings due to the temporary suspension of movement linked to the Pahalgam incident.
According to the ministry, the approval specifically applies to Afghan trucks that entered Pakistan before April 25. The Afghan Embassy submitted a formal request on April 28, urging Pakistan to facilitate the onward journey of the trucks under the established Afghan transit trade framework.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since circulated the list of the 150 approved Afghan trucks to all relevant authorities. Instructions have also been issued to identify any additional stranded Afghan trucks, so appropriate action can be taken without further delay.
Officials emphasized that this decision reflects Pakistan’s commitment to regional trade cooperation and humanitarian facilitation, particularly with neighboring Afghanistan.
