Islamabad( The COW News Digital)In a significant breakthrough, the Pakistan Navy, in collaboration with China, has discovered vast gas reserves beneath the seabed within Pakistan’s maritime boundaries, a development that could reshape the nation’s energy landscape.

Rear Admiral (R) Fawad Amin Baig revealed the discovery during an interview with a private news channel, describing it as a milestone for Pakistan’s energy security and economic sovereignty. According to him, the Navy conducted an advanced seabed survey in partnership with Chinese experts, and the results were highly encouraging.

“The survey indicates the presence of large-scale gas reserves in Pakistan’s offshore territory, which could play a revolutionary role in meeting the country’s future energy demands,” Rear Admiral Baig said. He emphasized that this achievement is not merely an economic opportunity but a strategic step toward national self-reliance and economic security.

The admiral also highlighted the geopolitical challenges Pakistan faces, noting that adversarial forces often attempt to intimidate investors through tactics associated with fifth-generation warfare whenever the country progresses. He stressed that the discovery showcases the coordinated synergy between Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), military leadership, and political authorities, enabling a unified defense and economic strategy.

Experts believe that if the gas reserves are efficiently harnessed, Pakistan could significantly reduce its dependence on imported energy, thereby saving billions of dollars annually. The reserves have the potential to address the long-standing energy crisis in the country while providing a strong boost to economic growth.

Rear Admiral Baig urged policymakers, administrators, and technical authorities to act swiftly. “We should not just celebrate this discovery; we must implement strategies to turn it into a driver of development,” he said. According to him, a robust political and administrative framework is essential to convert the reserves into tangible economic benefits.

The discovery has been lauded as a historic achievement for Pakistan, highlighting the strategic partnership with China and demonstrating the Navy’s role beyond traditional defense functions. Analysts say that tapping into these reserves could ensure energy self-sufficiency, economic stability, and enhanced national security, positioning Pakistan as a potential regional energy player.

With rapid and effective exploitation, the newfound offshore gas reserves could transform Pakistan’s energy sector, reduce reliance on foreign imports, and strengthen the country’s long-term economic resilience.
