Islamabad(The COW News Digital)The Pakistan cricket team has departed for Hong Kong to participate in the prestigious Hong Kong Sixes Tournament, set to be played from November 7 to 9 at the Tin Wang Road Recreation Ground. Led by fast-rising pacer Abbas Afridi, the Pakistan squad is looking forward to showcasing competitive and dynamic cricket in the unique and fast-paced six-a-side format.

A total of twelve teams from around the world will compete in this year’s edition of the Hong Kong Sixes, a tournament widely recognized for its explosive batting, high scoring rates, and fast turnover of matches. The participating teams have been split into four groups, each consisting of three teams. Pakistan has been placed in Group C, and will play all its group-stage matches on Friday, November 7.

The selected Pakistan squad features a blend of emerging talent and players known for strong hitting ability, quick running, and sharp fielding—qualities essential in the Sixes format. The team includes Abbas Afridi (captain), Abdul Samad, Khawaja Muhammad Nafi, Muaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Shehzad, Saad Masood, and Shahid Aziz. The team will be managed by Raza Kachlo, who will oversee logistics and team coordination throughout the tournament.

The Hong Kong Sixes is known for its crowd-pleasing nature, lightning-quick matches, and open playing spaces that encourage aggressive stroke play. Cricket fans often look forward to this tournament as it provides a different flavor compared to traditional formats. Bowlers are restricted to short spells, and boundaries come thick and fast, making athletic fielding and innovative hitting particularly crucial.

For Pakistan, the tournament is also seen as an opportunity to test bench strength and provide international exposure to young talent outside the pressure of mainstream bilateral and ICC events. Abbas Afridi, who has shown tremendous growth across T20 domestic competitions, is expected to play a key leadership role both on and off the field.

Pakistan’s group stage performance will determine whether the team advances to the knockout phase. Fans will be watching closely to see if the squad can replicate Pakistan’s traditional flair and competitiveness, especially in shorter formats.

As anticipation builds, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed confidence in the squad’s potential and is hopeful that the young team will deliver strong performances and represent the country with pride.
