Amidst the growing tension between India and Pakistan, the effects are becoming increasingly evident on social media as well. Recently, actress Urwa Hussain shared a story on Instagram, speaking about self-respect and national dignity.
Although Urwa Hussain did not name anyone in her post, her words appeared to be directed at actress Hania Amir, who had thanked her Indian fans after her Instagram account was blocked in India.
Urwa Hussain wrote in her post, “Propaganda is a weapon used in wars, and unfortunately, we have been enduring it for decades. When a war occurs, you must respect your dignity and stand by your people.”
She further added, “It is more important to take care of your home first.” Her message quickly went viral on social media, with users speculating that it was aimed at Hania Amir.
It is worth noting that Hania Amir had expressed gratitude towards Indian fans for accessing her Instagram account through a VPN after it was blocked in India. One Indian fan wrote, “Hello Hania, subscribed to VPN just for you, love from India,” to which Hania replied, “Love you.” Another fan wrote, “We will see your posts even from Mars,” and Hania responded with, “So sweet.”
However, following the blocking of Instagram in India, there was a noticeable decline in the likes and comments on Hania Amir’s posts. While her posts previously garnered millions of likes, now they are limited to a few thousand.
This situation not only impacted Hania Amir but has also affected the popularity of other Pakistani artists. This issue emerged after India began blocking Pakistani artists’ social media accounts, including those of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and DG ISPR. Subsequently, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar’s account was also blocked in India. These actions sparked strong reactions from the Pakistani government and public.
Urwa Hussain’s indirect criticism of Hania Amir has ignited a new debate on social media, discussing national dignity and self-respect, while also bringing the global popularity of artists and their relationship with fans into focus.
