On Friday, Russian forces launched drone strikes on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, leaving at least 50 people injured, including an 11-year-old child.
According to foreign news agencies, local authorities reported that Russia targeted civilian areas, severely damaging multiple residential buildings, vehicles, and essential civilian infrastructure. The Governor of Kharkiv confirmed that fires broke out at several locations following the attacks, creating a state of fear and panic in the region. The injured have been transferred to local hospitals, with several individuals in critical condition.
The strikes come at a time when Ukraine and the United States have finalized a crucial agreement regarding mineral exploration in Ukraine. Analysts suggest that the increased intensity of Russia’s attacks could be a reaction to this deal.
Kharkiv, located near the Russian border, has been under constant Russian bombardment and drone strikes since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In recent weeks, Russian attacks have escalated again, causing not only significant casualties but also severely disrupting civilian life.
Meanwhile, the United States has stated that it continues diplomatic efforts with both Russia and Ukraine to de-escalate tensions, although the situation on the battlefield continues to deteriorate.
