Snowfall Intensifies Cold Wave Across Northern Pakistan

Islamabad(The COW News Digital)A new spell of snowfall across the northern regions of Pakistan has led to a significant drop in temperature, deepening the ongoing cold wave. Key tourist destinations in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are witnessing fresh snowfall, drawing both excitement among travelers and concerns for road safety and mobility.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, snowfall has resumed on several high-altitude peaks and passes, including Babusar Top, Nanga Parbat, and Batogah. The continuous snowfall has caused slippery conditions, and over a dozen vehicles were reported to have been stranded due to snow accumulation along mountainous routes. Local authorities are working to clear the roads, but travel remains difficult as the weather remains unpredictable.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas such as Swat, Upper Dir, and Kalam have also received fresh snowfall. The scenic Upper Hazara Division witnessed its first winter rain and hailstorm, which further intensified the cold. Daytime conditions resembled late evening due to dense clouds and decreased daylight visibility. Tourist hotspots including Ayubia, Nathia Gali, and Changla Gali have recorded snowfall of up to two to three inches, covering the region in a white blanket.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rainfall and snowfall from Muzaffarabad to the Neelum Valley have also led to harsh weather conditions. The local administration has advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during spells of heavy snowfall to prevent accidents and road blockages.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory, warning of intermittent rain and snowfall in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All district administrations have been directed to stay alert, ensure road-clearing machinery is operational, and prepare emergency response teams for any potential disruptions, including landslides or blocked highways.

With winter tourism increasing every year, authorities have emphasized the need for caution. Travelers heading toward high-altitude destinations are encouraged to check weather updates, carry essential supplies, and avoid traveling after nightfall. While the snowfall has enhanced the scenic beauty of the northern belt and offered picturesque views for visitors, the risks associated with harsh weather remain significant.

Residents in affected regions are now experiencing early winter conditions, much earlier and more intense than previous years, signaling what may be a prolonged and severe cold season ahead.
