Prominent South Indian actress Amina Nizam has reportedly received death threats after she publicly condemned the Indian government’s recent attack on Pakistan, calling it a “cowardly move” and a misguided response to the Pahalgam incident.
Taking to social media, Amina Nizam criticized the celebratory tone adopted by supporters of the Modi administration in the wake of the strike. In her post, the actress stated, “Those who believe that attacking Pakistan avenges the Pahalgam incident have not been told the truth.”
She further expressed disappointment over what she described as a national failure to seek peaceful solutions: “It is unfortunate that our country has chosen violence over answers. Many questions still remain unanswered.”
Highlighting India’s ongoing economic struggles, the actress added, “War never brings peace. I do not support this narrative.”
Her remarks sparked outrage among far-right Hindu nationalist groups online, with many issuing threats to her life and demanding she retract her statements. Facing intense pressure and growing hostility, Nizam was ultimately forced to delete her post.
Amina Nizam, who made her film debut with Gangs of 18, has since starred in critically acclaimed Malayalam films such as Anjam Pathira, Turkish Tharkkam, and Pitha Pakal. She also gained widespread recognition through the television reality show Nayika Nayakan, later earning roles on popular OTT platforms.
Despite the backlash, her comments have drawn support from peace advocates and civil society members who emphasize the need for dialogue over conflict.
