New York (The COW News Digital)The United Nations has recognized the United States as the world’s largest provider of humanitarian aid, according to the latest data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA). The report highlights the global distribution of aid contributions, placing the European Union second and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) third.
This year, the United States contributed $3.57 billion in humanitarian assistance, accounting for 14.9% of the total global aid. The European Union followed closely, while the UAE provided $1.46 billion, representing 7.1% of worldwide contributions. The overall global humanitarian aid totaled $20.5 billion, reflecting the collective efforts of countries and organizations responding to crises around the world.
UNOCHA’s report underlines the significant role that major donors play in addressing emergencies and sustaining vulnerable populations. The United States, by topping the list, continues its long-standing tradition of providing substantial international support, targeting regions affected by conflict, natural disasters, and other humanitarian crises.

According to media reports, Palestine received the largest share of international aid this year, accounting for 44% of global assistance directed to specific regions. Sudan also benefited from humanitarian funding, receiving $600 million to address ongoing crises. Additionally, Afghanistan was provided immediate aid to assist victims of recent earthquake disasters.
Experts note that the international community increasingly relies on leading donor countries to fill gaps where local capacities are limited. Humanitarian funding supports food security, medical assistance, shelter, and emergency response measures, helping millions of people affected by conflict, displacement, and natural calamities.
While the United States and European Union continue to lead contributions, the UAE’s ranking underscores the growing role of Gulf countries in global humanitarian efforts. The report also emphasizes the need for sustained, predictable funding to respond efficiently to escalating global challenges, including climate-related disasters, conflicts, and protracted crises.
UN officials praised donor nations for their commitments, highlighting that collective action and international solidarity remain essential to mitigate human suffering.
