MUMBAI ( The COW News Digital) Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan, sister of actor Saif Ali Khan, recently revealed why she chose to live in a rented apartment during the early days of her career, despite belonging to one of India’s wealthiest families.
In an exclusive interview, Soha shared that before entering the film industry, she worked in the finance sector to gain financial independence. After completing her Master’s degree from the London School of Economics, she joined an international bank in Mumbai, earning an annual salary of ₹2.2 lakh, while paying ₹17,000 monthly rent for her apartment.
“Soha explained that a significant portion of her income went towards rent, but she wanted to live independently so that she could make her own life choices,” the interview highlighted. She emphasized that financial autonomy was crucial for her confidence and personal growth.
The decision to pursue acting was not easy. Soha admitted that she was aware that her parents, Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, might have disapproved of her choice. Nevertheless, her desire for self-sufficiency encouraged her to take the leap into Bollywood.
Soha’s breakthrough in the entertainment industry came through a modeling project, which earned her ₹5 lakh. This initial opportunity opened doors to films, and she was later cast in the movie “Dil Maange More” alongside Shahid Kapoor for ₹10 lakh. Following this, she fully embraced acting as a professional career and continues to work in films to this day.
The actress reflected on the balance between heritage and independence, noting that while she comes from an affluent family, living on her own and earning her own money instilled a sense of responsibility and maturity. “It was never about the money, but about making choices and standing on my own feet,” she said.
Soha Ali Khan’s story resonates with many young professionals in India and abroad who seek to carve their own paths, even when coming from privileged backgrounds. Her journey demonstrates that self-reliance and personal growth often require stepping out of comfort zones.
