World Youth Boxing Champion Usman Wazeer returned home to a thunderous welcome at Karachi Airport after defeating his Indian opponent in a dominant performance during his 16th professional bout in Bangkok, Thailand.
Crowds at the airport erupted with chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” as political leaders and fans gathered to greet the undefeated champion. Usman was warmly received by National Assembly member Asad Alam Niazi, Sindh Assembly member Asif Musa, Chiniot Town Chairman Farhan Ghani, and others, who presented him with flower garlands in celebration of his victory.
Speaking to the media, Wazeer said he was proud to defeat an Indian boxer and bring glory to Pakistan once again. “I’m thrilled with the win and extremely grateful to my fans for their constant support,” he said.
Hailing from Gilgit-Baltistan, Wazeer called for official recognition and encouragement. “I am a proud son of Pakistan. I request the Prime Minister and the Army Chief to acknowledge my achievements and support my journey,” he said, adding that national recognition matters to athletes from all regions.
Wazeer also highlighted the untapped potential in Pakistan’s youth, particularly in areas like Lyari, known for producing talented boxers. “There is no shortage of talent in our country. These young fighters just need proper attention and support from the government,” he emphasized.
The 25-year-old boxer made headlines after knocking out India’s Eshwaran Sahitha Durthy in just 1 minute and 25 seconds during their fight on April 24 in Bangkok. The win cemented Wazeer’s undefeated record — 16 wins in 16 professional fights, 11 of which came by knockout.
This marks his second knockout victory over an Indian opponent in Bangkok, following a 65-second KO last September that earned him his world youth title.
Wazeer’s return has reignited calls for greater investment in boxing and other sports across Pakistan, with fans and analysts urging national leaders to support emerging talent that continues to shine on the global stage.
