World ( The cow news digital ) A 90-year-old athlete from the US state of Ohio has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new world record in the dead hang category, demonstrating extraordinary strength and endurance at an advanced age.

Ann Crile Esselstyn secured the record by maintaining a dead hang position for an impressive 2 minutes and 52 seconds. At 90 years and 231 days old, she has now become the oldest individual to accomplish this milestone, according to Guinness World Records.

The dead hang exercise requires an individual to hang from a bar with minimal support, testing grip strength, stamina, and upper body endurance. Esselstyn’s achievement has been widely praised as a testament to lifelong fitness and determination.

She broke the previous record held by Annie Judis, who had completed the challenge at the age of 81 in 2024. The new record significantly raises the benchmark for senior athletes worldwide.

According to media reports, Esselstyn began preparing for the record attempt in February, undergoing focused training to build the necessary strength and endurance. Despite starting her preparation relatively late, her consistent effort and dedication played a crucial role in her success.

Throughout her life, Esselstyn has been actively involved in sports, having participated in and coached around ten different athletic disciplines. However, she revealed that pursuing a world record was an entirely new experience for her.

In a statement shared with Guinness World Records, she expressed surprise and gratitude at the recognition, noting that much of her life had been devoted to supporting her family, including her four children and ten grandchildren, in their own sporting pursuits.

“I never imagined at 90 that I would have the opportunity to train with such focus and actually earn a Guinness World Records title,” she said, reflecting on her journey.
