President Putin concluded his two-day official visit to India and returned to Moscow following the summit. During the high-level meetings, both leaders discussed expanding cooperation in strategic sectors including defense and energy. India expressed interest in acquiring additional S-400 missile systems from Russia and also plans to upgrade its fleet of Russian-made SU-30 fighter jets.
The summit highlighted the strong economic ties between the two nations. Currently, the bilateral trade volume stands at $68 billion, with India aiming to increase it to $100 billion by 2030. Both sides also discussed opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas such as nuclear energy, space technology, and industrial development.
Experts view the visa announcement as part of India’s broader effort to strengthen diplomatic and economic engagement with Russia amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics. By facilitating easier travel for Russian tourists, India hopes to promote cultural exchange, tourism growth, and stronger people-to-people connections.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in regional security and defense, signaling a long-term commitment to maintaining a strategic partnership. Analysts note that India’s move could enhance its influence in Eurasian geopolitics while solidifying its status as a key partner for Russia outside of Europe.
With the new visa facility, thousands of Russian travelers are expected to visit India, boosting tourism and fostering closer bilateral ties. Both nations appear committed to further deepening economic, defense, and cultural cooperation in the coming years.
