The confrontation took place during a counterterrorism operation in the Yalova province, following intelligence warnings of an imminent attack.

According to the Turkish Interior Ministry, security agencies received credible intelligence indicating that ISIS operatives were hiding in the area and planning a major terrorist attack. Acting on the information, police units launched a targeted search and raid operation to apprehend the suspects before they could carry out their plans.

Officials said that as police teams moved in to secure the location, the militants opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire. The situation quickly escalated, with heavy shooting reported from both sides. Despite the resistance, Turkish security forces managed to neutralize the threat after a prolonged clash.

Six ISIS members were killed at the scene, while three police officers were fatally wounded in the line of duty. Several other officers were reported injured and were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased officers, pending notification of their families.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya praised the bravery and professionalism of the police forces, paying tribute to the officers who were killed. In a statement, he said that the fallen personnel were heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect the nation. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and stressed that there would be zero tolerance for groups threatening national security.

“The Turkish state will never allow terrorist organizations to find safe haven within our borders,” the minister said, adding that operations against ISIS and other extremist groups would continue without pause.

Security experts note that Türkiye has remained on high alert due to its strategic location and past attacks linked to ISIS. Over the years, Turkish authorities have carried out hundreds of counterterrorism operations, arresting suspects and dismantling sleeper cells across the country.

Officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the killed militants had links to wider ISIS networks operating inside or outside the country.
