Washington(The COW News Digital) U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that his upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will yield meaningful results, as diplomatic efforts to end the prolonged Russia-Ukraine war gain renewed momentum.

In a recent statement, President Trump suggested that the outcome of the meeting would largely depend on Washington’s approval and support. “Zelensky has nothing without my approval. Let’s see what he brings to the table,” Trump said, signaling his intent to play a decisive role in shaping the next phase of negotiations. He also remarked that Moscow’s economy is under increasing strain, adding that he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future.

Trump’s comments come amid heightened international focus on possible pathways to de-escalation and peace. Since returning to office, the U.S. president has repeatedly claimed that his leadership could accelerate efforts to bring the conflict to an end, emphasizing diplomacy backed by economic and political pressure.

On the Ukrainian side, President Zelensky confirmed that he is scheduled to meet President Trump in Florida on Sunday. Zelensky said the talks would focus primarily on peace negotiations aimed at ending the war with Russia, which has entered its fourth year with heavy human and economic costs on both sides.

Zelensky stated that Ukraine remains committed to achieving a negotiated settlement, provided that its sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected. He revealed that Kyiv, in close coordination with Washington, has been working on a comprehensive peace framework. According to the Ukrainian president, nearly 90 percent of a proposed 20-point peace plan has already been finalized.

The plan reportedly includes provisions related to security guarantees, reconstruction assistance, and mechanisms to prevent future escalation. While specific details have not been made public, Ukrainian officials have indicated that continued U.S. support is central to the proposal’s success.

Analysts say the planned meeting could mark a critical turning point in the conflict, particularly if it leads to direct engagement between Washington and Moscow. Trump’s indication that he may soon speak with President Putin has further fueled speculation about renewed high-level diplomacy.

However, observers caution that significant differences remain between the positions of the parties involved. Russia has yet to publicly respond to the latest developments, while European allies are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that any peace initiative aligns with broader regional security interests.

As global attention turns to the upcoming Trump-Zelensky meeting, expectations remain cautious but hopeful that renewed diplomatic engagement could pave the way for a breakthrough in one of Europe’s most destabilizing conflicts in decades.
