Washington(The COW News Digital)The inaugural session of the Gaza Board of Peace, formed by former US President Donald Trump, commenced in Washington with the participation of diplomatic delegations from several countries. The high-level gathering focused on prospects for peace, reconstruction, and long-term stability in Gaza and the wider Middle East.
Among the distinguished attendees was Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who arrived in Washington at Trump’s special invitation. During his opening remarks, Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership, singling out Field Marshal Asim Munir for commendation.
Trump described Asim Munir as an exceptional military leader and a “tough fighter,” crediting him with playing a role in efforts aimed at preventing escalation and saving lives during regional tensions. He also thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that he appreciated the Pakistani premier’s support for ceasefire initiatives and diplomatic engagement.

In his address, Trump reiterated his claim that he had helped de-escalate tensions between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan, asserting that strong diplomatic pressure, including trade measures, contributed to averting a broader conflict. He further claimed that his administration had played a role in ending or easing eight long-running global conflicts and expressed confidence that another ongoing dispute could soon be resolved.
Turning to Gaza, Trump acknowledged the complexity of the situation and criticized Hamas, urging the group to honor agreements and disarm. He expressed hope that broader regional diplomacy, including engagement with Iran, would yield progress within days.
The former president said the newly established peace board had already secured $7 billion in aid pledges for Gaza, describing the funding as an investment in peace, stability, and development. He announced that the United States would contribute an additional $10 billion toward reconstruction efforts. He also noted that international partners, including FIFA, were assisting in mobilizing further resources for humanitarian and infrastructure projects.
Trump emphasized his vision for a harmonious Middle East, stating that the goal was to ensure effective governance in Gaza without the need for further military deployments. He thanked several countries for their support, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan, underscoring what he described as a collective commitment to sustainable peace.
