The announcement comes just days after The Washington Post laid off more than 300 journalists, a move that drew criticism from staff and industry observers alike.
Some journalists, who had questioned Lewis’ ability to transform the newspaper during his tenure, reportedly welcomed the resignation, describing it as a turning point for the paper’s future direction.
The resignation raises questions about the newspaper’s leadership and strategy at a time when traditional media outlets continue to face economic pressures and industry disruption.
