LONDON (The COW News Digital) A shocking health scandal has emerged in the United Kingdom, where at least 82 people have died after using illegal weight-loss injections sold through underground networks across the country.
According to an investigation by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), an organized criminal network distributed more than 2.5 million doses of these dangerous injections, selling them for as little as £20 each on the black market. The injections were marketed online as fast and effective solutions for obesity and diabetes patients — but in reality, most were unregulated and scientifically untested.
Authorities have launched a large-scale crackdown in collaboration with local police and health departments to halt what they describe as a “deadly underground trade.” The MHRA has already confiscated illegal injections worth over £250,000, but experts warn that thousands more may still be circulating among the public.
One of the victims, 53-year-old Karen from Manchester, died just days after receiving the injection. Her family told reporters she only wanted to “look slimmer and more beautiful,” unaware that the product she used was unsafe.
Health experts fear that the number of victims could rise, as many people have purchased these injections online without medical consultation. Reports suggest that thousands of UK residents struggling with obesity and diabetes turned to social media ads and online sellers for quick fixes — many of which offered counterfeit or unapproved products.
Regulators have now urged the public to avoid buying any medical injections from unofficial or online sources, warning that these products can cause severe side effects or even death. The MHRA stated that none of the confiscated injections had passed official safety or clinical trials.
A spokesperson for the agency said, “People must understand that these unlicensed weight-loss drugs are not only ineffective but also extremely dangerous. Anyone who has purchased or used them should seek medical advice immediately.”
The government is reportedly preparing to introduce tighter online drug sale regulations and stricter penalties for distributors involved in the illegal sale of medical products.
As authorities expand their investigation, the deaths serve as a grim reminder of the deadly risks behind unregulated weight-loss solutions.
