Melbourne( The COW News Digital)South Africa’s rising cricket star Dewald Brevis has etched his name into the record books with a blistering century against Australia, setting multiple milestones in T20 International cricket. The 22-year-old played an extraordinary unbeaten knock of 125 runs off just 56 balls, powering his team to a commanding 53-run victory in the second T20I of the series.

Batting first after being invited by the hosts, South Africa posted a formidable total of 218 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Brevis, nicknamed “Baby AB” for his batting style reminiscent of AB de Villiers, brought up his century in just 41 balls — the fastest ever by a South African in T20 Internationals. His innings was studded with powerful strokes all around the ground, dismantling the Australian bowling attack.

With this knock, Brevis surpassed Faf du Plessis’ long-standing record of 119 runs, set in 2015 against the West Indies, to become South Africa’s highest individual scorer in T20Is. He also became the youngest South African to score a T20I century at just 22 years old, breaking Richard Levi’s previous mark set at age 24 in 2012 against New Zealand.

Adding to his list of achievements, Brevis is now the first batter in history to score a T20I century against Australia on Australian soil. His dominance with the bat left the home crowd stunned and shifted the momentum in the three-match series.

Australia, in reply, struggled to keep up with the steep chase and were bowled out for 165, handing South Africa a comfortable win. Despite a few starts from Australian batters, the disciplined South African bowling attack kept the pressure on, sealing the victory with overs to spare.

This victory leveled the series at 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling decider on Saturday. For Brevis, this performance not only cements his status as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket but also serves as a statement of South Africa’s growing depth in the T20 format.

Cricket fans and analysts alike are already hailing the innings as one of the finest in T20I history, with many predicting a bright future for the young prodigy on the international stage.
