Ghaziabad( The COW News Digital) In a bizarre yet troubling case, a woman in India approached the police to file a complaint against her husband, alleging that he forced her to exercise for three hours daily to look like Bollywood dancer Nora Fatehi.
According to Indian media reports, the incident took place in a suburban area of Ghaziabad, where the woman appeared before police officials with a grievance that left officers both surprised and amused.
In her statement, the woman said her husband, a physical education teacher by profession, subjected her to strenuous workout sessions every day. “He is a huge fan of Nora Fatehi and insists that I should look smart and beautiful like her,” she told police.
The woman further alleged that her husband denied her meals if she refused to comply with his fitness demands. “If I don’t exercise, he doesn’t give me food and leaves me hungry for hours,” she added.
In addition to the forced workouts, the complainant accused her in-laws of demanding dowry and money. She claimed that whenever she resisted, they harassed her and pressured her into following their instructions.
Police have registered a case against the husband and his family members on charges of harassment and cruelty. While investigations are underway, no arrests have yet been made.
Local authorities confirmed that they are treating the case seriously, noting that it highlights broader social issues of domestic abuse and dowry-related harassment. Police officials said they were also consulting legal experts to ensure appropriate action.
The unusual nature of the complaint — a wife being compelled to work out to resemble a celebrity — sparked discussions on social media, where users expressed both shock and humor. Some criticized the husband’s obsession with a public figure at the expense of his wife’s wellbeing, while others highlighted the deeper issue of controlling behavior within marriages.
Women’s rights activists have condemned the incident, stressing that such cases reflect ongoing struggles against both unrealistic beauty standards and domestic abuse in South Asia. “No one should be coerced into changing their body to meet someone else’s fantasies,” said one activist.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have assured that justice will be served.
