Riyadh ( The COW News Digital)A rare and breathtaking celestial event is set to grace the skies of Saudi Arabia at dawn — a meteor shower known as “Al-Jabariyat” — an occurrence that happens only once every 36 years. Astronomers say the spectacle will illuminate the early morning horizon with dazzling streaks of light, visible to the naked eye just before the Fajr prayer.

According to the Saudi Astronomical Society, the meteor shower will be visible from October 2 to November 7, with its peak moments expected during the pre-dawn hours. On average, observers will be able to witness around 20 meteors per hour, painting the sky with glowing trails of fire as if the heavens themselves are celebrating a divine procession.

Experts describe the Al-Jabariyat meteor shower as one of the rarest astronomical displays in the Arab world, noting that such a phenomenon has not occurred over the region for nearly four decades. The event, caused by the Earth passing through the debris stream of a long-period comet, is expected to deliver an awe-inspiring experience to skywatchers across the Kingdom.

Saudi media reports highlight that this is not merely a scientific spectacle but a profound reminder of the beauty and power of creation. Many in the Islamic world have described the event as a moment that “refreshes faith,” recalling the Quranic verse: “Then which of your Lord’s favors will you deny?” (Surah Ar-Rahman 55:13).

During the event, the sky will shimmer with bursts of light — meteors blazing through the atmosphere, leaving luminous trails in their wake. Witnesses may observe these “shooting stars” without the need for telescopes or binoculars, making it an accessible wonder for families and astronomy enthusiasts alike.

Authorities have encouraged citizens and visitors to find open areas away from city lights for the best viewing experience. Astronomers also advise patience and early arrival, as the show is most visible roughly one hour before dawn.

For many Saudis, this once-in-a-lifetime celestial display is expected to be both a visual and spiritual experience — a moment of awe under the vast expanse of the Arabian sky.
