ISLAMABAD(The COW News Digital) The United Nations has strongly condemned the recent suicide attack in Islamabad and called for those responsible for the terrorist act to be brought to justice. UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.
The attack occurred near the G-11 Sector courthouse in Islamabad on Tuesday afternoon around 12:30 PM. A suicide bomber on a motorcycle targeted a police vehicle before detonating explosives, causing a powerful blast that could be heard across the surrounding area. The explosion killed 12 people and injured several others, with some of the bomber’s remains reportedly landing inside the courthouse premises. Nearby vehicles caught fire due to the blast, and significant damage was reported to the area.
In his statement, Guterres emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation into the attack, stating, “All individuals responsible for this act of terrorism must be held accountable and face the full weight of justice under international law.” The UN chief underscored the global responsibility to combat terrorism and reaffirmed support for Pakistan in its efforts to address such acts of violence.
The Islamabad suicide attack comes amid heightened security concerns across Pakistan, particularly following recent incidents targeting educational institutions and public areas. The UN’s call for accountability highlights the international community’s expectation that terrorist perpetrators will not escape scrutiny.
Local law enforcement agencies have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Preliminary reports suggest that the assailant was operating independently, but authorities are examining possible links to cross-border terrorist networks. Security forces have stepped up measures in sensitive areas to prevent further attacks and safeguard civilians.
The Secretary-General’s remarks also emphasized solidarity with Pakistan during this challenging time. “We stand with the people of Pakistan as they cope with the aftermath of this violent act,” Guterres said. His statement reflected the UN’s broader stance on counterterrorism, urging member states to strengthen cooperative efforts to prevent and respond to acts of terrorism.
The Islamabad attack has drawn widespread condemnation from governments and international organizations, reinforcing the need for coordinated measures to combat terrorism while protecting civilians. Pakistan authorities have pledged to continue their investigations and take necessary actions to ensure accountability for those behind this attack.
