Islamabad — Senior Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan has resigned from his position as the party’s Secretary General, stating that he intends to focus on his responsibilities as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. The resignation was formally accepted by PTI founder Imran Khan, marking a notable change in the party’s leadership structure.
In a social media post announcing the move, Ayub said that balancing the duties of Opposition Leader with the demanding organisational role of Secretary General had become increasingly challenging. He emphasized that stepping down from the party post will allow him to devote full attention to legislative duties, policy debates, and representing the voices of PTI lawmakers in Parliament.
The party has already named Salman Akram Raja as the new Secretary General, with PTI figures expressing confidence in his ability to manage daily organisational affairs. Meanwhile, Ayub will continue to play a central role in opposition politics as PTI intensifies its push against government policies and governance issues.
Political analysts suggest the shift reflects PTI’s efforts to strengthen its parliamentary campaign and sharpen its legislative focus ahead of upcoming political challenges. Supporters and critics alike are watching closely to see how the reshuffle affects the party’s overall strategy and cohesion.
