Islamabad(The COW News Digital)The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide alert as Pakistan braces for severe cold, rainfall, and snowfall over the coming days. The Meteorological Department forecasts cold weather across most regions, with partly cloudy skies and particularly harsh conditions expected in mountainous areas during mornings and nights.
According to the weather office, rainfall and snow are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir starting this evening and continuing into the night. Light snowfall is expected in the higher altitudes of these regions, potentially impacting transportation and daily life.

The NDMA advisory, effective until December 18, highlights that precipitation, including snowfall and rain, may affect upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan. The western monsoon currents are predicted to influence northern and western Pakistan, causing dense fog in some areas, light to moderate rain in plains, and snow accumulation in hilly and high-altitude regions.
Authorities have warned that road closures are possible in affected areas due to snow accumulation, particularly in Quetta, Ziarat, and northwestern Balochistan, where light rainfall is also expected. Travelers and residents are advised to exercise caution and monitor updates from local authorities to avoid hazards caused by slippery roads and reduced visibility.
The NDMA emphasized that intermittent light snowfall could occur across multiple locations in northern areas, urging citizens to stay informed and prepare for adverse weather conditions. Emergency services and local administrations have been advised to remain on alert to respond quickly to weather-related incidents, including power outages, transportation disruptions, and potential flooding in low-lying areas.
Meteorologists have also highlighted that temperatures will drop significantly in the higher altitudes, and residents in vulnerable regions should take precautions against frostbite and cold-related illnesses. Warm clothing, adequate heating arrangements, and emergency supplies are recommended for families living in affected districts.
The NDMA and meteorological authorities continue to coordinate with provincial disaster management units to ensure timely dissemination of warnings and preparedness measures. Citizens are encouraged to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense snowfall or rain.
