Geneva(The COW News Digital)During the second round of Iran-U.S. nuclear talks mediated by Oman, Iran and the United States have reportedly reached a consensus on fundamental principles, marking a significant step in efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear framework.

Speaking to the media at the conclusion of the indirect negotiations, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that both sides have agreed on key guidelines that could underpin a future agreement. While he cautioned that a finalized deal is not imminent, Araghchi emphasized that practical steps have begun, including drafting and exchanging documentation outlining potential terms.

“The work on possible agreement documents is underway, and both parties will exchange drafts soon,” Araghchi said. He also noted that certain issues remain unresolved, particularly regarding the use of force and military threats, which must be addressed immediately to ensure a stable negotiation environment.

The talks saw representation from the U.S. delegation by Steve Whitcov and Jared Kushner. Both sides engaged in detailed discussions aimed at narrowing differences on nuclear program restrictions, sanctions relief, and verification mechanisms.

Analysts described the developments as a “practical breakthrough,” highlighting that agreement on core principles can accelerate drafting and help establish mutual trust between the parties. However, they stressed that finalizing a comprehensive deal will require continued negotiation on sensitive issues, including regional security arrangements and compliance verification.

Observers also noted that Oman’s mediation played a crucial role in facilitating communication between the two delegations, providing a neutral platform for dialogue. This approach allows both countries to maintain political flexibility while making incremental progress.

While no immediate timetable for a final agreement has been set, the establishment of agreed principles is seen as a positive signal to the international community, demonstrating that diplomacy is advancing despite past stalemates.

The outcome of these talks could have wide-reaching implications for regional security, sanctions relief, and Iran’s nuclear activities, with global attention focused on the next stages of negotiation.
