Karachi(The COW News Digital)Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for widespread rain and snowfall across various regions of the country from March 14 to March 16, 2026. The alert comes as a new western weather system is expected to enter the northwestern parts of the country, bringing precipitation to both plains and mountainous areas.
According to the meteorological update, heavy rainfall is likely in cities such as Peshawar, Kohat, Bajaur, Haripur, and surrounding regions including Chitral, Abbottabad, Swat, Kohistan, and Shangla. Mountainous areas are also expected to witness snowfall, potentially affecting travel and road conditions.
In southwestern districts, including Zhob, Barkhan, Chaman, and Ziarat, skies are predicted to remain cloudy with chances of thunderstorms and rain. Meanwhile, central and northern Punjab cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and regions including Murree, Galiyat, and parts of Azad Kashmir, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan, are expected to experience intermittent rainfall over the next three days.
The Meteorological Department has also warned that another western weather system is expected to enter the western regions of Pakistan on the night of March 17, potentially extending rainfall and snowfall across additional areas. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant, particularly in mountainous regions where heavy snowfall could disrupt transportation and daily activities.
In response to the forecast, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab (PDMA) has issued alerts and is coordinating precautionary measures, including monitoring river levels and ensuring emergency services are prepared for potential flooding. Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with local weather reports.
Authorities have emphasized that while rainfall is beneficial for agriculture and replenishing water reservoirs, sudden downpours or snowfall in high-altitude areas may pose risks to travel, road safety, and power supply. Motorists and travelers are urged to exercise caution and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
