National ( The cow news digital ) vPakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have formally announced a political alliance for the upcoming elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, marking a notable development in the region’s electoral landscape.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Islamabad, where senior leaders from both parties confirmed their decision to collaborate in the upcoming electoral contest scheduled for 27 July. According to party representatives, the alliance aims to strengthen their electoral position and consolidate support across key constituencies in Azad Kashmir.

PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin stated that the decision to enter into a formal understanding with JUI in Azad Kashmir was taken after mutual consultation and political assessment. He expressed confidence that the alliance would benefit both parties by expanding their outreach and improving their chances in multiple constituencies.

He further highlighted that the Pakistan Peoples Party has consistently raised the issue of Kashmir at national and international forums, emphasizing the party’s long-standing political commitment to the region. He also announced that in constituency LA-14 and LA-23, JUI candidates would contest as joint nominees of both parties under the alliance arrangement.

On the other hand, JUI Azad Kashmir chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf described the agreement as a historic development, stating that it was the first time in the region’s political history that JUI had formally aligned with PPP. He explained that under the seat adjustment formula, PPP would support JUI candidates in two constituencies, while JUI would extend its backing to PPP candidates in all remaining constituencies.

Political observers believe that this seat adjustment arrangement could significantly influence the dynamics of the upcoming elections, particularly in closely contested constituencies where traditional vote banks play a decisive role. The alliance is seen as an attempt to pool resources and avoid vote fragmentation between the two parties.

Elections for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly are expected to draw strong competition among major political forces, with parties intensifying their campaigns ahead of polling day. Analysts suggest that such alliances may become increasingly important in shaping the final outcome of the election.

Both parties have expressed optimism that their cooperation will result in improved electoral performance and greater political stability in the region.
