World ( The cow news digital ) The death toll from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 3,889, as authorities continue assessing the scale of destruction caused by the powerful tremors.
According to international news reports, two major earthquakes that hit the country nearly two weeks ago left thousands dead, around 17,000 people injured, and nearly 18,000 residents displaced from their homes.
The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck on June 24 and caused widespread damage across several regions of Venezuela. Coastal areas were among the worst affected, with La Guaira suffering significant destruction.
Officials reported that more than 800 buildings were damaged in La Guaira, while around 190 structures were completely destroyed. Rescue and emergency teams have been working to search affected areas and provide assistance to communities impacted by the disaster.
After two weeks of rescue operations, teams have nearly concluded efforts to locate survivors trapped under collapsed structures. However, many families continue searching for missing relatives as recovery operations move into a new phase.
The disaster has created major humanitarian challenges, with thousands of people requiring temporary shelter, medical assistance, food supplies, and other essential support.
The United Nations is working to raise approximately $300 million in emergency funding to support Venezuela’s recovery efforts. The funds are expected to help with humanitarian aid, rebuilding damaged infrastructure, and assisting displaced communities.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government is reportedly engaged in discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the release of frozen financial assets to support relief and reconstruction efforts.
Experts have warned that rebuilding after such a large-scale disaster will require long-term planning, international cooperation, and significant financial resources.
