World ( The cow news digital ) The ongoing monsoon spell continues to bring widespread rainfall across various parts of Pakistan, significantly lowering temperatures and breaking intense heat spells, though urban flooding has caused disruption in several cities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that the monsoon rain system will persist over the coming days, advising citizens to take necessary precautionary measures in low-lying zones.
Heavy Downpours Lower Temperatures Across Punjab
In Lahore, persistent cloud cover accompanied by light rain kept the weather pleasant. Surrounding areas, including Sheikhupura, Muridke, and Kahna, experienced torrential rains driven by strong winds, leading to a marked drop in humidity.
Urban flooding, however, created challenges for local residents in multiple districts:
- Gujrat: Heavy showers inundated critical intersections, including Jail Chowk and Katchery Chowk.
- Gujranwala: Low-lying neighborhoods such as Satellite Town, Model Town, Peoples Colony, and Hafizabad Road faced severe waterlogging.
- Dera Ghazi Khan: Heavy rainfall accompanied by cool breezes brought much-needed respite from high temperatures.
Flash Floods Prompt Rescue Operations in KP
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, torrential rains triggered flash flood emergencies in low-lying regions. Rescue teams successfully evacuated 12 individuals trapped by rising floodwaters in Sahibzada Town, Akora Khattak, and safely extracted six others caught in flood streams in the Adamzai area of Nowshera.
In Swabi, intermittent rainfall provided welcome relief from heat, while in Peshawar, heavy downpours led to severe waterlogging across several areas. Floodwaters accumulated inside the University Road Underpass, temporarily disrupting the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service and creating travel difficulties for commuters.
