National ( The cow news digital ) Smartphone adoption in Pakistan has surged from 62 percent in 2024 to 72 percent as of June 2026, according to a performance briefing presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a high-level review of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
The meeting was attended by key cabinet members, including Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, and State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad, alongside senior government officials.
Officials informed the Prime Minister that available mobile spectrum expanded dramatically from 274 MHz in June 2025 to 880 MHz by June 2026, significantly enhancing internet speeds and nationwide connectivity. Under the “Connect Pakistan Vision 2030” initiative, fixed broadband and fiber connections were extended to 5.1 million households, while a new Software Technology Park was successfully completed in Bagh, Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
Financially, Pakistan’s annual IT exports recorded a 21 percent growth, reaching $4.6 billion, with independent freelancers contributing $1,164.7 million during the previous fiscal year. Additionally, 130 public sector services have been fully digitized under the “Digital Nation Pakistan” framework. IT training initiatives issued over 942,000 certificates, while partnerships with global tech firm Alibaba are integrating artificial intelligence solutions across key federal institutions, including the FBR, State Bank, SECP, and DRAP.
Expressing satisfaction over the rising IT exports, Prime Minister Sharif commended the Ministry of IT and directed authorities to ensure third-party validation for all training programs to maintain rigorous quality standards while accelerating digital infrastructure development across the country.
