Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar confirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan underwent a comprehensive medical examination at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad overnight before being shifted back to Adiala Jail.
Addressing the media, Tarar stated that the former prime minister was transported to PIMS during the early hours of August 21 under strict security protocols. A team of qualified medical specialists, including an ophthalmologist, a cardiologist, and a general physician, examined him during the visit. Doctors from Al-Shifa Hospital were also present at PIMS to assist with the health evaluation.
Explaining the change in venue, the Information Minister noted that safety concerns prompted the decision to use PIMS instead of Al-Shifa Hospital directly. Security disruptions caused by party supporters along the transit route and outside Al-Shifa led authorities to adjust the arrangements to maintain public order and ensure safe transportation.
Following detailed clinical assessments, the medical board declared Imran Khan in good health. Tarar highlighted that the PTI founder’s sister, Uzma Khan, remained present throughout the entire evaluation process. Upon completion of the checks, Khan was escorted back to Adiala Jail around 5:00 AM.
The minister reiterated that the government continues to provide proper medical care to the imprisoned leader whenever required, emphasizing that healthcare facilities have been routinely made available to him in accordance with standard regulations.
The medical checkup follows a recent directive from the Supreme Court ordering authorities to facilitate a health assessment for the PTI founder at Al-Shifa Hospital.
