ISLAMABAD: In a significant political development, Pakistan’s combined opposition held its inaugural joint parliamentary meeting at Parliament House, agreeing to align their strategies and restrict their political movement strictly within the framework of parliamentary legislation.
The meeting was chaired by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Prominent political figures attended the session, including Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Leader Raja Nasir Abbas, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, along with other senior parliamentarians.
The opposition alliance resolved to maintain a unified stance inside Parliament on critical national challenges, including rising inflation, deteriorating law and order, the creation of new provinces, judicial independence, economic instability, counter-terrorism measures, and the release of political prisoners.
Speaking to the media following the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that the current political climate is not suitable for discussions regarding the division or creation of new provinces, warning that such moves could deepen public mistrust. Mahmood Khan Achakzai welcomed the unity among opposition parties during what he described as a challenging political atmosphere, while Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reaffirmed that all constituent parties have assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman of their commitment to moving forward collectively.
