ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially finalized the nomination of Barrister Iftikhar Gillani as its candidate for the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), following a high-level consultative meeting held at Prime Minister House.
The strategic meeting on government formation in AJK was attended by senior party leadership, including Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Shah Ghulam Qadir, Raja Farooq Haider, newly elected Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, Deputy Speaker Ahmad Raza Qadri, and Barrister Iftikhar Gillani.
According to party sources, comprehensive deliberations took place regarding the political transition and key appointments for the incoming PML-N administration in Azad Kashmir. During the meeting, consensus was reached to field Barrister Iftikhar Gillani, who was recently elected on a technocrat seat, for the premier slot.
The consultative session also outlined the future roadmap for government formation and legislative strategy in the region. The election for the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir is scheduled to take place in the AJK Legislative Assembly on August 28, 2026.
